[Seo-Yeon] Epilogue

By doing the blogging, I did most important preparations for trip : booking and getting Eurail pass, getting an international student ID card, buying and getting camera, booking accomodations, and so on.

The most interesting but hardest work was to make a moving route. All the nations are nearby, but some nations are connected with only high speed train, which I should spend much more money. The making route was hard, but by doing this work I can feel that I am preparing for trip!  Also, finding the places of each nation brought me delight.
I didn't get the all of the plans, but I could do half of the plan making by this blogging.Looking into some places of Europe, I thought that Korea is really small nation. Although I'm not on a flight yet, I could feel the Europe indirectly. Now I have some confidence that I can travel much better than expectation before blogging!

[Seo-Yeon] Booking the accomodation (The day 7)

Many people don't book the accomodation. However, since it was my first trip abroad, and since I have to take care of my younger sister too, I decided to book one of the accomodation of Amsterdam, which place I will arrive at. I booked one of the hostel on the list of hostelworld. Bostel Amsterdamse Bos!

Actually, that place is not a hostel, but a cabin.

Woody houses are placed on the grass!

The room looks like dorm, but the room I will sleep is for 2 people. Only I and my sister will sleep together! It was the cheapest site. Although it is a little bit far from the transportation, sleeping in cabin will be fresh experience!

[Seo-Yeon] Buying Camera! ( The day 6)

One of the necessary items of travel is camera! I used only my celluar phone camera to take a picture. However, from now, I don't have to take picture by phone camera! I am so excited!

My camera! It is really small, but it can take picture of 16,000,000 pixels. And it can zoom in 30 times! Amazing and quite pretty camera, isn't it?

Dark black color is simple. I really like it! My mom bought one for my birthday gift. I am not afraid of anything since I got the camera! I feel that I am a real traveler!

[Seo-Yeon] Getting Eurail Pass and Plan change (The day 5)

I got the Eurail pass! Wow!

The cover of Eurail pass looks like that.

Inside of the pass looks like that.

Actually, I planned to go to Belgium after the trip in Netherlands. But I changed the route because of the train time table. To go to Belgium from Netherlands, I should reserve the train before riding on. It means that I have to spend much more money. So I decided to go like this way.
 Amsterdam →  Frankfurt  → Berlin  → Praha  → Wein  → Salzburg  → Munchen  → Zurich  → Interlaken  → Brussel  → London  → Paris!
I spent much time on changing plan. But the process of making route is quite great job I think!

[Seo-Yeon] International Student ID Card (The day 4)

International student ID card is necessary because price in Europe is high. The international student ID card provides many discounts entering museums, art galleries, and accomodations. So I applied one by internet approach. It was really easy job! I'll receive the card when I go to school.

[Seo-Yeon] Booking Eurail Pass (The day 2)

Booking Eurail Pass is harder than my thinking of. Also, the ticket was much more expensive than my expectation. Since I have to save money, I decided to select 2nd class. Then I have 2 choices: to select eurail global pass having to be used continuously or to select eurail flexi-pass, which I can select the date of use. Flexi-pass was a little bit more expensive than global pass.

I bought 2 flexi-passes so I spend 781.51€, about 1,156,800won. I can use the ticket 10 times in 2 months from the issuing date. As I booked the most two important things, air plane ticket and eurail pass, now I can make detail plans!

[Seo-yeon] My First Trip to Europe! (The day 1)

It was hard working to select the theme of the blog. I think that good blogging can be done by the blogger's real interest. So Seo-Ye and I decided to blog different theme. What I decided to blog is 'The Preparation for Europe Trip'.

Actually, I already booked two airplane tickets. One is for me and other one is for my sister. The booking was done on 25 March, 2013. For about 2 months, I didn't have any plans. As I am a elder sister, I am responsible for my younger sister too. I have to purchase many things and look for some helpful tips for Europe trip. It takes really great times to search for information and I need to write down some memoes. That's why I decided to do this task with blog.  Many people who have been Europe for trips said that the most useful things to prepare are Eurail pass, international student ID card, and so on. So I will prepare those things step by step.

As I was not ready for anything, the first thing to do is to determine where to go. There are many countries in Europe. That fact makes me keep agonizing. North Europe is too far from the Netherlands, at which I arrive. Also East Europe seems dangerous because of many gypsies. South Europe is not only far but also too much hot in summer. So I decided to go mainly West Europe. The first list I want to go was made up of these countries: Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, the Republic of Austria, the Kingdom of Belgium. But Europe is really large continent, and one country has many cities which I want to go. That makes me forgive Italy. If I go Italy, I wanted to go at least 4 cities: Pisa, Milano, Venezia, and Rome.

So I decided to go 8 countries: Netherlands, the Kingdom of Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Austria, Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom in chronological order. Since I leave Europe at Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, I have to come back to France after the trip in the United Kingdom.

Deciding the route was too harder than thinking of. Since I am not used to the geography of Europe, I took about 2 hours making moving line. It is really important job to make moving line because many things are decided by it. Eurail pass, for example, is decided by moving line. Many kinds of eurail pass are exist. Eurail Global Pass(for travel in 24 countries), Eurail Select Pass(for travel in 3, 4 or 5 countries), Eurail Regional Pass(for travel in 2 countries), Eurail One Country Pass(for travel in 1 country) are those kinds. I selected Eurail Global pass. I can travel 10 days in 2 months by train.

As the trip route is ready, I can book the hostels in Europe. It can be hard work too. Since I have never been hostels before, I am a little bit excited! Those things will be done from tomorrow, maybe.

Prologue

When I was in high school, I wanted to be an architect. And the dream have came today. In Yonsei University, I became an pre-architect of interior. No matter how I tried to avoid about buildings, what I really concern, see, hear and touch is about architectures. Before this project I was sick of black, gray and white color of Yonsei University campus, thus I need something to arrange my complicated mind. So, the first thing to clean my mind is to draw my campus much more colorful and then goes for it. This mission is not just hard English training, but matters of my heart. I'm sure that this project won't let me down and will make me refreshing.
First, I pointed many sites of Yonsei pride : Underwood Hall, Underwood Memorial Hall, Yun Dong Ju Monument, Amphitheater, Yonsei Hangul Monument, Cheong Song Dae Park, Severance, Dormitory, Gwang Hye Won and Samsung Hall where I’ll working this project.

Preparation

Samsung Hall 513 Room, Tracing Papers, Colored Pencils, Camera and My Hand

01 Underwood Hall

May 28th

I hate rains! It was raining when I was in Underwood Hall. I touched the very cold surface of Underwood Hall, also I felt the tough wind that blew my Umbrella. However, I usually felt dry skin of hall, after few seconds I was seized by refreshing and clear green color. It was amazing. And, I could image the breathing of Yonsei founders and numerous people who passed Underwood Hall. Also, I could feel the scholar's passion and trial of academy.

The Underwood Hall sits between Stimson Hall and Appenzeller Hall with the three buildings forming a ‘U’ shape. It was named after H.G. Underwood, the founder of Yonhui colleage, which later developed into Yonsei University. It is a magnificent semi-Gothic stone building with a Tudor-style arched front entrance. The gothic style and students made time stop and showed us the collision with the past and present.
I backed to my colleage, Samsung Hall and entered 513 room then I drew a rough sketch with tracing paper.

Wow! It's too vague. ;( So, I emphasized the Tudor-style arched front enterance and semi-Gothic stone building.

Tra-la! Then, I colored this hall with my colored pencils.
Serene sky plus, It's the end. This is the Underwood Hall in color. : )

02 Underwood Memorial Hall

May 29th

It was also raining a lot and too cold to take a walk without outwear. However, the rain emphasized the green color. The curved path made me feel like I was in time trip and the serene atmosphere made me freeze.
The roof of the hall was made of  Kiwa, which is traditional Korean roof material. It's so impressing! There were blurry light at the end of windows, I think, It have been used until thesedays or ghost of Underwood family.

The house was built by Dr. Horace Horton Underwood on the western slope of the Yonhui campus. And now, the house officially named “Underwood memorial Hall” as a tribute of sacrifice of the Underwood family. Also I could feel the hearts and efforts of the founders. There must be many hardships in the early years of the 20th century like persecution to Christian and coercion of Shinto worship than God. This is not just the cradle of Yonsei University but also the history of tolerance and sacrifice. I backed to my college, Samsung Hall and entered 513 room then I drew a rough sketch with tracing paper.
Too rough. ;(
And I colored.
High blue sky and brown soft land plus.
This is Underwood Memorial Hall in color. The End.

03 Amphitheater

May 30th

When I followed the narrow stairway, next to Choeng Song Dae Park, there was an huge amphitheater. And as a sign of gratitude, the names of the Yonsei alumni who generously contributed to the renovation have been engraved on its stone steps. It can hold around 8,000 people. Wow!
(▲This picture with students comes from Yonsei Brochure)

And I climbed the slope to see the stage. The stage looked like theatron of ancient Greece. The stairs, which was named theatron, was made by using hummock and there was semi-circle orchestra at the bottom. It was so impressing that the amphitheater looked like hiding in Yonsei campus. Furthermore, over the roof, I could see the library and other buildings.

Trala~!

I think it is better that show the color trend and draw with color themes. Therefore, take a look at the history of color!

04 The Psychedelic 60's and The Earty 70's

May 31st

The 'psychedelic' is a fashion word that became a cultural word. It means semiconscious experience that comes from hallucinogenic agent like LSD.This is now we called the Hippy culture. In 60's,  youth culture erupted and there were counter culture and social revolution.
Thus, the color of 60's represent it's social trend. There were Hot Pink, Grass Green, Vermillion Orange, Lemon Chrome, Cyan Blue and Bright Violet. It were very divese and clear color.

The 'eatrty' means not only earth, but also vulgar. In 70's, there were big economic recession, environmental movement and disco crowned king. Thus, the colors of 70' are Avocado, Burnt Sienna, Carafe, Harvest Gold, Rust and Corsair.

05 The Vibrant 80's and The Nuanced 90's

June 1st

In 80's, The economic upturned and people want more diverse and lifelike colors. And the MTV and other kind of visual media made pop music bigger. So, There were Lavendula, Radiant Orchid, Mauve Orchid, Ribbon Red, Rose violet and Royal Blue(Yonsei Color~!).

In 1990's, there was big issue to my parents, I was born. : ) Also, there were other issue. Aganist fussy of city culture, Grunge and graffiti(like doodle of wall)and Zen Style emerged. The colors of 90's are down fo the tone and very diverse such as Green, Gray, Blue, Yellow and Orange.
(Graffiti)

06 The Expressive 00's

June 2nd

The day of 2000's is diverse society. Techonologies about minimalism and individualism were the key of success of business. Also, grobalization leaded to world issues and made lots of changes can erupt all over the world at the same time. And there were  three primary colors and three primary of lights that intimate with all over the world like Red, Blue, Green, Yellow.

07 The color of 2013 is EMERALD

June 3rd
The Emerald represent many things : Regeneration, Rejuvenation, Well-Being, Elegance and Luxurious. I think this is so beautiful than any other color of gems. Emerald has power to make people refreshing than Ruby, Sapphire and so on.

08 Gwang Hye Won with the earthy 70's color!

June 4th

This is Jeong Ja Gak which is yonsei memory center. Next to this building there are dolmens.
In South Korea, there are 30,000 dolmens which made 4,000~2,500 years ago.
These represent the image of Korea.
The groove at upside dolmen means love and wishes long live of dead person.
Gwang Hye Won is the first modern Royal Hospital in Korea. This was restored by the part of Yonsei centennial project in 1986.

OMG. These are the worst things I've ever draw.OTL ;(

09 Cheong Song Dae Park with the vibrant 80's color

June 5th
Cheong Song Dae Park is a forest which locate in Yonsei campus. Students and professors and others can escape the fussy of daywork and seek to relax and refresh.
(▲This autumn picture comes from Yonsei Brochure)

I'll make Cheong Song Dae with violet.
OMG 2.

10 Yonsei Hangul Monument with the color of 2013

June 6th
This is the Yonsei Hangul Monument. Hangul is the Korean Alphabet and phonogram. So, these 'ㅇ' and 'ㅅ' shape represent the initial sound of 'Yon' and 'Sei'.

Epilogue

 June 10
I think I could have done best, but these days I've got lots of practical works. (Well, always I think like this. My frivolous excuse...) However, this is my only chance to draw my world in mind before graduate work, this work is priceless to me.
